So, soon after I got my Taurus PT140 my rear sight came a bit loose. A fairly common problem with that gun, and usually not a big deal, you loosen the screw the rest of the way, apply some loctite, put it back, and you are good to go (heck, you might be able to loctite it without loosening the screw more). For some reason with mine, that wasn't an option because the screw was too tight to budge, it couldn't be tightened or loosened. Accuracy was still decent (fine for a defensive gun, not a target gun, as it would still work fine at self-defense ranges), so I didn't worry too much about it.
Well, after throwing it into my range bag in its holster instead of a case (so the rear sight was unprotected) the screw snapped and the sight is lost (though probably somewhere in my bag). I did it many times so I thought nothing of it, but it either got hit just right by a gun case or hit the side of the bag just right. Not the gun's fault, but now I need to do something about it.
It will need a trip to the smith to take out the part of the screw still in the slide, so I need to spend that money anyway, so I'll have them professionally installed. I'm not going to bother sending it back to Taurus- the lifetime warranty doesn't cover sights after a year (I don't know if this is a new policy or if they've always had it) plus this wasn't a defect, it was my fault (well, not the loosening, but the snapping off was).
I'm not sure if I should spend the money on night sights or just order the OEM sights from Taurus. Heck, if I can find the original sight (assuming it hasn't fallen out of the bag) I'd only have to pay for re-installation. Normally I'd go with night sights in this situation (I always wanted to add them to this gun), but that might be complicated. Taurus has made the Millennium in three completely different sight configurations and the companies that make aftermarket sights often don't specify which Millennium their sights are for. Even if they specify Pro and pre-Pro Millennium, there are two configurations for the Pro. I have the older M. Pro. So, it seems like a major potential hassle (especially if I try to save money by ordering online) and they may not even be available. Ordering OEM sights from Taurus would be easiest, but I do want night sights.
So, is it worth possibly needing to try several different options to find one made for my gun? The better question, does anyone know what brands and models of night sights are made for the older Millennium Pro (before they went with the SA and dovetailed sights version of the M. Pro)?
