I wanted to start a thread to become a sticky so that no one is left uninformed about the petition against the HR 1022 Assault Weapons Ban. Currently we are around 40,000 people signed and we need to get the word out everywhere to hopefully reach the 1 million mark.

Read about the ban if you have not, and please get anyone you know informed about the petition and have them sign it. Please try to get additional stickies posted up about it on other forums that you may visit as well.

The link to the petition is here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/409898348

You do not have to be emailed or need to join anything, there are check boxes for you to opt out when filling out the registration.

Done. I also wrote four letters to my representatives last month.
This new and improved AWB is even worse than the last.

Shouldn't this be in Activism?

To all:
It looks like you can sign without joining.
I joined, and was asked to support NARAL and UNICEF. Not as a petition: as part of the registration process.
If you decide to join you may want to check out the rest of the site first.
Can someone take a guess as to why this petition was posted on this particular site? It's definitely the odd man out when you look at some of the other petitions they've got going....

The guy who put this on the website had this to say (about the website)
This petition and it's author is in no way affiliated with the
ACLU. I am an honorably discharged Marine, gun owner and rifle
range member. The host website is by charter a
non-partisan site, though they do carry many left leaning
petitions. If that makes you uncomfortable, start some right
leaning ones and get people on board.
You don't have to join and you can opt out of emails from NARAL, UNICEF, NAMBLA, or whatever.

I posted it in here even though it would be better described as activism, due to the simple fact there are many more views in this forum. It is something that really needs views over relevance.

I think with that many signatures already it is a bit late in the process to think about other petition sites. It may not be the most credible. If a million signatures are reached however, you would hope the affect would still be realized near equally.

I'm number 41,181. I hope it makes it to over a million as I don't have an "Evil Black Rifle"...yet.

+1: 41,255. thanks for the heads up. i was to young to really understand what was going on last time (brady bill etc.) hopefully this time i can help
