Stop wasting your time and send a letter to YOUR representative in DC! Just to put my money where my mouth is, to equal my time spent wasted replying to this thread I will mail off a letter to my local representative in DC tomorrow (*removed*) although I have already called his office and been assured of his long record (true) of opposing all anti-RKBA legislation.

EDIT: removed representative's name for location-privacy

MANY of us already do that and have ALL along~~~

Many of us DO just that and have for many, many years in our former states and in our new states.

We email, snail mail and CALL them including getting mail back from them via snail mail and email. (Back east - I got return telephone calls.)

The first thing that I do is CALL... call their LOCAL offices and their District of Criminal offices.

FLOOD them with calls by telling your friends to call too.

Proceed with email and snail mail.

I think that anything helps but most of the time... they tell you one thing, promise this and that and many of them still COMPROMISE unfortunately.

My 2 cents.

Respectfully yours,

Catherine - Montana

done - and posted on another forum - sign and write your represenatives to stop HR1022

another step

I added my name to the petition. this bill must be stopped. it is another step on the list of steps to disarm the American people. We must all be aware of the thinly disguised (safety) ploy, and stop this foolishness. Remember the steps that Hitler took.

Least we forget

Signed as well.
Its depressing that we pay people who attempt to systematically destroy our rights and power over the government.

Petitions, especially the electronic ones, are useless. They have no 'weight'. Period.

In addition, for gunrights, they are DANGEROUS.....

Why? Because they people that sign them actually think they've done something when they've done absolutely nothing.

Calling/writing/faxing/emailing legislators is the key: be a squeaky wheel and burn up staff & telephone time.

[Also, who runs that petition? Who wants your personal info? Since the petition is by definitiion useless, could it actually be there to get your info for a mailing list that's re-sold?]

I got off the phone last week after talking to Springfield. The Gal asked me to tell my fellow shooters that HE WILL VOTE AGAINST the recent legislation. The capitol phone system was paralized from PROGUN calls. DIRECT political
action is what they understand. Forum polls are ineffective.
If they ever come for our guns they will knock on my door first. I have been writing and calling my Govt officials for almost 40 years and I'm still collecting and shooting. Get envolved, stay envolved and get your kids and grandkids shooting and hunting. Our opposistion can loose over and over again, we do not have that option.

Slacktivism.

If you want to sign something, sign a letter that you wrote to your representatives. Internet petitions like this are not worth the paper they're printed on. Your representatives don't pay any attention to them. They do pay attention to your letters and phone calls.

Online petitions do absolutely nothing. Signing petitions on these "professional petitions" websites also accomplishes nothing. Anybody can start a petition on these petition websites. They are ridiculous and a total waste of time. It's sad to see sincere people putting stock in them.

Physically signed petitions on paper, by registered voters, that are then delivered to congressional offices are the only petitions that might have an effect.

I am not American I am baffled as to why anyone needs an assault weapon unless they are a drug dealer?

Because we might be attacked by a drug dealer.

Seriously, so called "assault weapons" are semi automatic only "clones" of guns that are issued to military. The definition of them is rather arbitrary and silly.
For example, from 1994-2004 we had the Clinton "assault weapon ban." This supposedly banned certain semiautos based on their having certain characteristics, like pistol grip, high capacity mags, bayonet lugs, flash suppressors, and collapsible stocks. The idea was touted as a law to get "military" guns out of civilian hands.
None of the guns banned were ever actually used by any military.
~BUT~
I have an M-1 Carbine my father returned with from the Korean War. It was not defined as an "assault weapon," ....BUT it WAS issued by a military!

In the United States we have a Constitution which has a Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment to this protects the right of the people to "keep and bear arms." According to this amendment, it is unConstitutional for the government to infringe upon this right.
And yet, we have 20,000 laws in America which are "gun control" laws.
The 1994-04 law did NOTHING to prevent crime. Nothing.

Oh ... and since you used the word "need" in your question, I would respectfully ask you to consider that what we have is not called the "Bill of Needs," it's called the "Bill of Rights."

Assault weapon is a term that suggests a certain "type" (read: so call due to certain cosmetic issues) of weapon is only suitable for assaulting persons. However, the military uses full-auto weapons, which aren't available to civilians... and they use them to save lives. Therefore, we, civilians, can certainly use guns with much less firepower to save ourselves, and potentially others.

Online petitions are stupid and ineffective.

Write an email (or better yet, an actual letter or telegram) to your CongressCritter. And don't copy/paste someone else's words, write your own, even if you are a poor writer -- no, especially if you are a poor writer because it will obviously be genuine that way ;)

To: WILKYCFC

"Assault Weapon" is an aesthetic term. Anyone who owns or at least researches US gun laws during the previous bans in the USA on so-called firearms knows that semi-auto hunting rifles are one in the same. More magazines=the same number of rounds. We are not allowed to possess any fully automatic guns without a special federal permit.

So....
What is the next type of ban, if imposed?

National California type ban?
No Hand Guns for GOOD PEOPLE?
Limited rounds in a magazine?
Single shot .22LR only?
No civilian gun ownership?
Our right to vote?
Our right for free speech?
Search and seizure with out cause?
What would be next?

It could very well be possible that we could become a complete communist state evolved from our beloved democratic country.
Is this our future?
Our Forefathers fought to give us the RIGHT TO DEFEND OURSELVES (Declaration of Independence and The United States Constitution).
Both of my Grandfathers defended our rights in Korea and WWII to keep world peace and secure American shores from invasions of our land and the intrusion of the Constitution of The United States of America. The outcome- a free nation, which we love.

I am a constitutionalist. Keep in mind what our founding fathers had in mind.
To be noted: We uphold laws against felons and aggressive/abusive(misdemeanor) persons possessing guns... These offenders will do heavy time in prison when caught with weapons. I agree with this law, and I believe it protects my family.

If my right to own a gun is abolished, I would have to surrender my rights to protect my family and freedom other than a knife (unless that is banned aswell). When the bad guy is armed and I am not, I have no protection...

Changing the Constitution= LIFE AND FREEDOM IS LOST and the BAD GUYS STILL KEEP THEIR GUNS.:(

Think of it this way... First it AWB then it will be handguns... these idiots Libs in Washington if they had it their way would take our guns, take our knives, take any defense item away from us... but where will it stop? We are talking extremist here, why not outlaw every thing, make us use plastic dinner ware and have to go to a quallified, licensed, professional grocer to have everything cut, even vegtables so as not to harm ourselves.

SO WHERE DOES IT STOP IF IT IS NOT FOR US

I just wrote my two senators and my representative. Here is what I wrote:

On HR 1022: I don't know what your view on gun control is, but I want you to know that your job in Washington is to uphold the Constitution, not tear it down. If any type of gun should be protected by law it is the type of gun that a militia could benefit from having. The old machinegun ban is unconstitutional!

Why is it that you politicians in Washington push such bad politics that you fear the retribution of the American people and therefore want to disarm them? The major problem in America today is the big clump of power-hungry, self-centered politicians in Washington. The American people is just in your way, seems to be the case.

Dunno if online petitions are any good or not but I dont see how it can hurt, better than nothing ,I signed :neener:
