I am completely a newbie on silencers. Question: Do they 'shoot out' or 'wear out' with lots of use or will a normal servicing of them (whatever that is) keep them working indefinitely?
 
Suppressors don't normally require much maintenance. There IS a dispute in the community over .22 LR cans. These can accumulate lead deposits over tens of thousands of rounds. A sealed can will have to be rebuilt at that point. I don't worry about it, but some people insist on a dismountable suppressor that can be scrubbed out.
 
Depends on the silencer type. some silencers use rubber "wipers" in place of the usual cone shaped washer thingies. Rubber wipers do wear out.
 
Wipes are not used on most modern silencers. Metal baffles will last tens of thousands of rounds. If you can afford to wear out a suppressor, you can afford a new suppressor.
 
You can get baffle strikes from all sorts of reasons. If you buy a can, research its bore size. At AAC we use a .300 bore for most of the 5.56mm cans and yet is still one of the very most quiet. YHM's bast baffle is just 0.242 inches (I think, but you can test it with a pin gauge set to be sure). So when two cans sound the same, you need to determine if they get good sound performance from advanced baffle design or from running a very tight bore which can lead to bullet strikes.
 
Very little service is necessary on a modern can using baffles. Over time, you might notice a decrease in sound suppression, but we're looking at a five-digit round count. The first digit is not a 1, nor a 2, and likely not a 3.

The issue with a suppressor that can be dissassembled is that, typically, if you don't take it apart and clean it, you will not be able to. Anti-Sieze on the threads is a must.

.22lr cans tend to gunk up a little faster, but my local SOT has several that are closing in on 10,000 rounds--no increase, whatsoever. One of the owners actually claims that his can is quieter now.
