i'm sure this subject might have been covered already, but i can't find that thread. are silencers/supressors legal for civilian use is PA? i don't want one to carry around or anything; i'm thinking of home use, like home defense or basement/backyard target practice. i've spent a few hours looking for info on the 'net, and nuthin'.

This forum for PA gun owners will give you all the info you need.

You can own a silencers (suppressors) in PA. You need to find a dealer that sells them, buy one, fill out the ATF Form 4, get your local chief LEO to sign the form, get printed, get photographed sent all that in to the ATF along with $200 for the tax stamp, wait, wait, wait (about a month), if all goes well pick up your suppressor. If your chief LEO (Sheriff, local police chief etc.) won't sign, there are other ways of going about it, for example, setting up a trust. Not a big deal.

What county are you in? Go here to find out if your Sheriff is likely to sign your paperwork.

Click your county name, if it says NFA friendly "Yes" you are most likely good to go.
