Wonder what they will charge for Form 1 types...
It looks like you can order fingerprint cards free from the ATF according to the replies here:

https://www.atf.gov/distribution-center-order-form

And if that's not the case Amazon sells packs of 50 for $20 http://www.amazon.com/Fingerprint-Applicant-FD-258-50-pack/dp/B0018DWAAQ along with an instructional video.

Upon a brief look into it, it appears we can take that route for the form 1's.

This system Silencershop is doing is brilliant though. If it works as intended (which hopefully it will, I mean they aren't the government) it will make life pretty easy, especially for the people who have Trustees in other States, just have them go to their nearest dealer once and the prints are saved in the system.

I don't understand how they can save the fingerprints and keep resending, I thought the ATF wanted you fingerprinted new every time? Otherwise, why wouldn't we be able to just send them in once?

That would make too much sense of course.

Don't you get new fingerprints every couple years? ATF just wants to make sure they have your current set. :scrutiny:

On a side note, does anyone else wonder about the security implications of having a private corporation holding a copy of your prints? It makes me a little leery. AIM surplus got hacked a few weeks ago and had their database of photo ID's stolen. You can get a new driver's license if it gets compromised, fingerprints not so much.

They did state in the article that they are stored Offline which at least is some measure of security.

And unlike a social security number, fingerprints aren't really used for much (that you could do online without submitting an original paper copy along with a lot more personal information) in the event it did get hacked. Ten or twenty years from now it might be a completely different story.

ATF just wants to make sure your finger prints haven't changed lately....
Dirty little secret, they can and do change and no scientific evidence actually exists to prove they are unique.

That poor fellow that got extradited to Spain after the Madrid terrorist bombing because his prints "matched" is proof they ain't! Expect a lot more of this as more and larger fingerprint databases come on line.

The fingerprint requirement is just plain harassment. Showing a ID to vote is "too infringing", but this crap stands?

I'm pretty sure you mean Brandon Mayfield, who was held as a material witness for just over 2 weeks in a local jail in Washington, never deported or charged.
One of 20 people with a known match to a Madrid partial print (partial matches say nothing about the validity of the underlying science--they knew thousands or more people world wide could have matched). Converted to Islam and was doing pro-bono family court work for one of the convicted Portland Seven terrorists. There were a few other circumstances that were innocent but look incriminating. Got about $2M for his trouble (again we are talking about 2 weeks and no criminal record for being held as a witness).
