Ok for those of you that own them, on a Mossberg 500, or a Remington 870 after you have fired a round do you have to press the slide release to eject and rechamber another round?

Or, is it only on an empty chamber the first time? Meaning that being empty you load it, press the slide release button, chamber a round, fire, eject without pressing release, chamber another round, fire, repeat until empty.

The question is because I really don't like the slide release on the 870 being forward of the trigger guard, it's just not natural to me. The Mossy seem much more natural.

I have shot a Mossy back about 15 years ago but cannot remember how it works and am looking into getting one or the other for home defense.

Let me know! Thanks!

No need to press the slide release to chamber the next round after firing on any pump shotgun. (at least none that I know of, but I could be wrong) I own a Mossberg 500 and my son owns a Remington 870.

You do not need to press the slide release unless you want to eject a live round. or if you accidently racked the slide into the closed position without a round inside the chamber.

Dave has the most succinct answer. You have to use the action release button if the trigger mechanism is cocked. If it is not, you can just pump it without pressing anything else.

Which do you like better?
