Silver brass?

When my oldest son started reloading he use to shoot his 45acp Kimber 1911 alot. He keeps records on loads & round counts on all of his guns. He was keeping records on the brass for awhile. He quit counting round count on his 45acp brass when he hit 52 reloads on the brass.

Really? I saw/see them frequently in many pistol calibers.

Before I started reloading and bought my ammo at Walmart they regularly had Federal (I think) aluminum cased 9mm and 45ACP. Much cheaper than brass of course. And not berdan primed if that’s even a thing in Pistol.
Right. I remember when Blazer aluminum came out. I've shot plenty. But it was all BERDAN PRIMED, this is the first I've heard of BOXER PRIMED aluminum cases. Try punching the primer out of a Blazer case. If it's Berdan you'll know right away.

I have seen some berdan primed nickel plated 223 cases.
I have a few 45acp aluminum cases, I'll have to find them and check them to see what primers they have. Never looked at them, when I buy range brass there seams to always be a few aluminum cases in with the brass.

Berdan primers are also used in pistols? Do berdan cases have two flash holes? I’m completely unfamiliar with them and have never seen one to my knowledge.

LOL!!! I've seen lots of Berdan but never Boxer; you've seen Boxer but never Berdan. We're both still learning. :)

I broke a depriming pin once on a 308 berden primed case before I knew they existed.
I buy & sell a lot of range brass, I take a flashlight and check all of the 308 & 8mm brass for berden primers and seperate them.
Also I check all the nickel plated 223 brass for berden primers.

Personally I would not reload berden primed cases unless that's all I had for a certain caliber.

I have some Gorilla .380 brass that is plated. It doesn't have the same whiteish sheen that your typical nickle brass has. It is more light blue in color like chrome plating. Loads and shoots just fine though. I found a bunch of it at my Legion Post range.

My personal experience with nickel - which I use extensively and prefer in most ways - is that some batches will fail very early, but the batches that don't tend to go about as long as unplated brass. As others have noted, nickeled brass sometimes will last long enough that the plating wears away...

Yes, Berdan primed cases have two flash holes off center.

Unlike Boxer primers where the anvil is inserted in the primer cup, Berdan primers have the anvil formed in the base of the case's primer pocket.

The Europeans and maybe some other non-North American countries use Berdan primer system alot.

Interesting, Hiram Berdan was an American while Edward Mounier Boxer was an Englishman.

Here is an article on the differences.
