Like my Sig P226 in 9mm and I like my Colt Cold Cup in 45. I'm starting to like the active safety of SAO cocked&locked versus DA/SA (I'm not looking to start a war on that) but I'd like a bit more than 8 rounds. I guess I could go with 10 round single stacks, but I was hoping to open the envelope a bit more.

I'm looking for a 45ACP for classes and for home, that is SAO but has higher capacity (10+). It seems that all I can really find are P220s and 1911 hi-cap models. Researched the FNP USG model, but eventhough it has a kind of hybrid DA/SA with SAO mode, it just seems odd. Had a XD before, how do the safety model ones compare, or are they just DA/SA with a safety added?

Besides the 1911s and the P220, are there any other SAO pistols? Looking for a full size 5 inch barrel with a rail.

Thanks

The Springfield XD is technically a SAO action.

The H&K USP can be optionally carried cocked and locked. If you want high capacity you will have to go with the full-size version.

I've thought of the XD, and I think it came with a safety for some models. I think I could wait for a XDm45, but I'd still like a safety on it.

I was looking thru the H&K website, and I saw a lot of SA/DA, but they are kind of chinsy with details, I'll look around.

Since it won't be a carry gun, bigger won't be a problem.

Just wish Sig would make a x-five tactical "226" in 45acp.

Guess I'll have to go tothe gun store and do some fondling.

Thanks guys for the CZ nod. Cool guns, just not SA and only 10 rounds. I'd probably just get some 10rnd mags for my 1911 instead of getting a new gun.

I can't believe that 1911/2011 and the P220 SAO are the only true SA guns out there in .45acp?

1911's aside, I found the new Sig P220 in SAO to be very nice. Picked one up a few weeks back and it is very accurate and so far 100% reliable with everything I've put through it. I believe Sig also makes a longslide or match version of the SAO P220 as well. When it comes to Sigs, I'm normally a German purist, however the SAO pieces really caught my eye and are built on a German frame with U.S. made slide. Mine has right around a 5.5lbs trigger with clean break and nice reset. If you're really used to a 1911, the Sig might take some getting used to since they have no grip safety.
