I was sitting here last night, and I started thinking about Ruger Single Six revolvers and that I might need one...

Which is the more common of these two barrel lengths, 5.5 inch or 6.5 inch? Which might you prefer?

I was just wondering what other folks consider to be the more common length.

I like the 5.5 better personally. Because shorter barrels are easier to handle. They also give nothing up in accuracy.

I have one with a 4.5" barrel.
I have had others, but the shorter barrel is handier. I sometimes actually carry mine in a belt holster when hunting, driving off road, or doing whatever in the back country. If you have a long barrel, when you sit down the gun attempts to pull your belt up over your head.

I HAD TO STOP AND THINK ABOUT THIS...

I have Ruger Single Six revolvers in 4 5/8", 5 1/2", 6 1/2", and 7 1/2". All of them shoot just fine. The shorter ones are easier to carry in a high ride TOM3P shuck but other than that all four are delightful 22 sixguns to shoot and enjoy. The SSS 5 1/2" sixgun will be going up into the hills tomorrow morning for it's regular exercise along with eleven other sixguns in various calibers.
