plenty to choose from...here's just a few:
Kahr's - heavy DA trigger
Sig P225/P6 or P239 - DA/SA w/ decocker
1911's (Springfield, Kimber, STI, Dan Wesson, etc...) thumb safety & grip safety
HK P7 - squeeze cocker
Walther PPS - trigger (like a glock)

I currently carry a EMP. I LOVE it. slim, light, great trigger, safe.
I had a Kahr. I liked the size, but HATED the trigger.
The P239 didn't feel right in my hands, but was accurate.
I had the P225 before Ohio had CCW. fit better than a P239 since it was pretty much a single stack P228.

Anybody make a decent priced 1911 9mm? Everyone I have seen is more than a 45 1911.....

Taurus PT-709. 7+1, manual safety, Glock type trigger, SA with second strike. A skosh bigger than the Kahr PM-9, Kel-Tec PF-9. About the same size as the PPS.

they are out there, but you have to look around or buy a pre-owned

I bought my Springfield Loaded Target 9mm last year for $799/NIB

The Star Firestar Plus is only a little bigger than the Firestar, takes a 13 round mag, and is a bit lighter.

Thereare lots of good cheap single column 9mms. Walther P-1s and P-4s as well as P-5s, Star BKS, BM and BKMs, Astra A-70 and A-75s, the Zastava M88 and M88A, The various 9mm Tokarevs, Karh P-9 are good choices in all price ranges.

You can get a Star BM for a couple of hundred dollars. They have the 'look and feel' of a slightly smaller than Commander sized 1911, but have different internals.

The PPS's trigger WILL smooth out in 200 rds or so. I have about 1000 or so thru mine and the trigger is great. 10 rd mag would be LONG and would print badly. In jeans I just carry my extra mag in that small pocket in front of the pocket. Thats the other advantage to a single stack, extra mags easy to carry.

Plus the going "good deal" price on PPS's is around $540. The expensive shops will charge $650. The PPS is great, but for $650 I would look elsewhere.

j21blackjack, they have IWB holster for the Walther PPS. Checkout high noon "Public Secret" very nice! If you want a bit more expensive, they have more expensive too. Its cowhide/Horsehide molded to the gun.

Sig 239, Sig 225, S&W 3913, are probably the "best of the breed" in single stack 9mm's.

I saw a couple of these at a gunshow....what is the quality like? Any idea how reliable?

Kel Tec PF9. It's an awesome gun. Really small, really concealable, but also very good.

Kahr Arms CW9 if you want to spend a bit extra money.

KelTec is about $300 brand new.

Kahr is about $500 brand new.

Both are excellent, and I would trust either to save my bacon.

I wish Glock could make and sell a single stack 9mm sub compact... I hate the Kahrs.

May have to try an EMP.

I'm going to take a second and brag on my SA UC in 9mm. 8 rounds, +1 in the pipe. Single stack, accurate, light recoil, and it's a 1911. Doesn't get much better than that if you ask me. Only problem is they're hard to find. I paid 500 bucks for mine used a handful of years ago and now they run 700-800 bucks.
