Well I have tried searching here, tried google and have tried to visualize based upon reading specs on various firearms but just can't seem to get it. I just did my taxes and am going to buy a revolver. I have decided that I am going with a .357 mag and right now I am either going to go with the SP101 with the 3" barrel or the GP100 with the 4" barrel. Oh and I will mention that the intended use for the revolver will mainly be at the range, but I am keeping an open mind for concealing it.

I currently own 2 Blackhawks in .357 with the 6.5" barrels as well as a Marlin in .357 so I am sticking with that caliber for sure. I also have a Springfield XD45 with a 4" barrel, I can conceal the XD45 just fine IWB with no problems at all, the weight with a full mag isn't too bad either.

I know that the SP will be the lightest, then the XD, then the GP and finally the BH, these are all unloaded weight arrangements by the way, I am not sure how much more the XD goes fully loaded but it is balanced for me so it doesn't bother much.

With that said, the BH is almost 12.5" long and just shy of 6" tall (From bottom of grip to the rear sights) where as the XD is just over 7" long and just over 5" tall. So going with all the info that I have, when compared to a BH and XD what are the relative sizes of these two revolvers?

Sorry for the long-winded post but I am trying to figure for the life of me the sizes in relation to something I currently have. I have held both before but in my local search I have yet to find someone with pistols that I can compare against each other in the same location at the same time.

Thanks in advance,

MD

If you want to conceal and are ready to carry it. The SP101 is your purchase. If you want to own a beautiful 4" Ruger than get a Royal Phoenix. If you want a beast then get the cheapest new 6" GP100 you can find. You already have a good stable.

Would you consider a Speed Six or Service Six with 3" barrel? These would give you an extra round relative to the SP101 for CC.

The SP will be the best choice for CCW but the GP will be considerably more comfortable for range use. You will have to make a compromise here.

Well an update, I went to a couple of local shops and was able to do a side by side of the GP100 and SP101. I think my XD would fit in between the two of them in terms of size and don't know about concealing a GP100, think it might be a bit difficult. The only problem is the one store that had a GP for sale wanted $700 for it and the SP prices were going to come out closer to $600. Just doesn't seem right, but that's me being cheap I guess. Might have to shop online.

The 3" GP100 with fixed sights is more easily concealable than the 4" version. Ruger used to sell it with grips that were almost as small as the SP101, but now you'd either have to find those grips used or go with custom wood grips.
