Two weeks ago, I shot skeet with my Benelli M1S90. I had a modified choke. I shot a really sad 14 out of 25.

Last weekend, I installed a brand new "skeet" choke" in the same gun. I shot a 22/25 and a 23/25.

Is this even remotely normal to see such a drastic change? I had no idea the choke selection could play that big of a role.

I do not shoot skeet but modified is a pretty tight choke for that game. Of course the only way to know is to pattern the gun but your results do not seem strange to me.

Yes, this is normal.

If you haven't , pattern at 21 yds [ distance from a station to the center stake on skeet field) the mod and the skeet choke. Notice the pattern size and density.

Recall also the pellets do not all arrive at the same time. [shot string].

Same principles applies in reverse, the skeet choke will not be effective at Trap, the modified and Full works best for Trap. These clays are going away and at longer distances.

Brister's book explains in text and in pictures these principles as well.

Congrats on the scores, had fun did we? :D
