Skipping rope for self-defence?

A long time ago I saw in an advert, in what one of my best policeman friends refers to as a "snob shop" catalogue, a jump rope with steel handles. Its handles disconnected to form what looked like a rather short and impractical nunchaku. It seemed to have "arrest me" written all over it, so I disregerded it at the time. However, having had a LOT of success testing various weighed rope concepts, using them as either chainwhip/gusari fundo mace-like striking, or Chinese meteor ball/tied stone or sling-type projectile weapons, I would very much like to purchase a similar device with heavy, solid metal (or heavy hard wooden) handles for both exercising and if the need ever arose, self-defence.

Does anyone here know where I may obtain such a jump rope?
 
You'd probably come off cheaper finding a local machine shop that does custom work and getting what you want for the handles. Buy a regular jump rope and combine the two.
 
A plain old Everlast boxer's jumprope doesn't break down quickly like that (I think heavy duty snap-rings hold the handles on) but has heavy hickory handles on ball-bearing swivels, and a nice heavy leather rope. I've never touched a pair of nunchakus but I often thought while skipping rope (lots of stuff goes through your mind when you're jumping up and down for a half hour) how a couple of quick knots tied up to shorten the rope would have made it a handy weapon.
 
Thank you for good suggestions for "combat jump rope"!

I will try these ideas out, and am not so interested in the shortened "nunchaku" use, but mainly the projectile/meteor ball, tied stone-type sling and weighted rope/"whip" applications! One could throw both ends/handles and release the entire thing for increased reach/range and a spreading of the two handles for a "shotgun pattern" effect, as well!

A sure headache (or worse!) for a would-be mugger or shooter!:evil:
 
I'm a strong believer in knowing how to use weapon types, as opposed to just specific weapons.

I believe a reasonable amount of practice with a sturdy wood-handled jump rope could leave you with a skill set that would be beneficial. Be careful practicing "popping" the rope directly at a target (dead trees preferred), as the handle will come back fast. Teaches good body movement, though...
