i've had an sks for awhile, but have recently run into a new problem as far as cleaning is concerned. coming from the small release holes on either side of the gas tube, rust can be seen. i figure then that it has built up inside as well. is there an easy way to clean inside the gas tube, or a way at all?

Rust is forming because you have not taken the time to clean the gas cylinder.

Stick a couple of patches soaked in bore cleaner in it and spray Breakfree CLP all over it. Wipe thoroughly.

Yes, as others have you need to clean your gas tube and operation rod as well and I use a thin coating of gun oil to protect but it burns off as soon as a few rounds are fired...
