How the heck do you get the windage drum out of the front sight of an SKS? Mine won't budge at all! I've tried the windage adjustment tool, a punch, heat and WD40 (at separate times :uhoh: ). It still won't budge :cuss: . Do you guys have any tips as to how to get the stupid thing out? I'm really getting frustrated :banghead: .

They're pressed in pretty hard. Often there is corrosion that makes the job harder too. I've removed a number of them though. Penetrating oil helps, heat might help, but a good sight pusher is the most important thing. I've always managed to get them out with the sight adjuster tools but it takes some work. Try pushing it to one side, then apply penetrant, then push to the other and apply more penetrant. This gets the drum "unstuck" a bit and lets the penetrant have room to work. Set it aside for a few days and try the pusher again. If you can't get it to budge at all, you may need to use a hydraulic press...carefully.

I was JUST there a little while ago. Trying to adjust my front sight and the post actually snapped off. It was actually severely corroded down inside the windage drum so I'm not surprised it happened.

So then I started trying to remove the windage drum with a sight adjustment tool... no go.

Oh DAMN, the BOTTOM of the post was still sticking out below the windage drum. I had to take my dremel tool and a carbide cutting tip and "keyhole" a slot about 1 inch down the side of my sight post to get the :cuss: thing out.

Replaced the damned thing with a williams firesight set and haven't messed with it since.

I finally got the SOB out! After breaking my sight tool :cuss: , some creative usage of vice-grips, a ridiculous amount of WD-40 and a ton of pounding with a punch, it started to budge. Needless to say, I was greatly relieved! Now I've got a William's firesite set in place and it looks great!
