The gun show has an sks-m for $650...two 30 rd, and a 5 shot mag. I have 6 sks' already (a russian, a yugo, and 4 chinese...some modified, most not). I also have 2 AKs and an AR. This would be just a want and to ad to my collection and shoot. What I've read is there are problems with the mag mod. I don't need it to save my life, but I would like it to work reliably like sks' do. The only other things the show had that I wanted was 2 Security sixes, one for $550 and the other for $600- too much for either. I would like to tap the vast amount of knowledge and experience you members bring to the table. Thanks.

The SKS M was manufactured in mainland China to accept AK47 magazines. It functions perfectly in every example I have seen.I have one and would not part with it.

I know what an sks-m, or d is... I was looking for more personal experienced reviews...sorry if I wasn't clear. The M and D models were around 500 plus, before this panic market, so I didn't think 600 or 650 was that bad.

I have an M. It's an SKS that accepts AK mags with no fitting issues. That's about it.

I had one for a little while. 20-round Hungarian mags were good choices for it. The stock was chunkier, went from being a light rifle to a carbine that was less so. The -M, in my opinion, was proof that an SKS with detachable AK mags was less useful than any old AK. The version with the 'standard' SKS-length barrel would have been more useful as it would have kept the better sight radius.

The original price that I paid was about $450, and I believe even that was overpriced for what I got. The SKS doesn't need additional capacity or detachable magazines. It needs better sights.

I just picked up an sks-m this weekend. Paid $550 with 2 30rd magazines , it has shot well through the few magazines I have put through it, and so far I am happy with it. I have a MAK-90, and being able to use the same magazines for both appealed to me. With the price of a good SKS skyrocketing to over $400, I was willing to pay the premium and I am betting it will not go down in value.
The sks does have advantages to the ak.

So upgrade the sights to tech sights and stop crying about it.

Thanx for all the replys. Sks's here were pushing 300-400 before panic, so I wasn't scared of the 600-650 for the 'm'. I too really like my other sks and ak each for what they are. The gun show is over and alas, I didn't get it but now I know if I see another I'll probably grab it. Thanks again:evil:

Mine works great and shoots as good as my other SKS rifles and is more accurate than my AKS. It's a very handy short little rifle. The only thing I don't like is the blonde wood which is a little soft.
