Well I had another post on sks's and it left me with more questions than answers so here we go
I could buy a refurbished Russian SKS yes a RUSSIAN SKS for 199.99 can dollars it has a non laminated stock which is good cause I I buy it I'd probaly get a synthetic stock for it anyways. It would be used primarily for mule deer and coyotes. Is this a good price?
Or I have a single shot 12 Gauge CIL 2-3/4 shotgun that I could have cut down to 19" by a gunsmith for 80$. Both would be used at no more than 100 yards. What says you?

Not being an expert on the pricing, but if you can do some horse-trading and make a profit on that SKS, you could then consider something in a better cartridge for your stated purpose.

If you're an excellent shot and a skilled hunter, you could probably get away with using the 7.62x39 in a sorta "up close and personal" fashion, but it's marginal at best.

SKS is fine for deer/coyote. I use 7.62x39 from various firearms for small to medium game and it does just fine. Hornady Vmax even load x39 now.

Id suggest also having a large side arm in case of encounters with a bear. 8 /

Forgive me, didnt now pay attention to the location. Im just a little paranoid, like having the security of extra firepower in the woods. :uhoh:

Taken several deer with my sks never really hunted anything else with it but never had to follow one into the swamp droped in there tracks,on the same lines my mossburg 500 has always done me right too.

Am I missing something, or is there a reason it's a good idea to take a sawed-off deer hunting.

I have an SKS I am quite fond of, and I confident I could drop a deer with it up to 200 yards using iron sights, (I modded them, Tech-sights and a thinner front post,) but for that kind of money, I would much rather grab a Nagant if my main use for it would be deer.

Neither of those options are known for accuracy...for the same loot i'd get a bolt-gun instead.
