Here are a few shots of my latest project, thought I would share. It's an early 60's Chinese SKS, I've had it for a few years and have always wanted to refinish it. When I bought this rifle it was wearing an ATI folding stock, and the bayonet and upper handguard had been painted green! It came with the original stock, which had some damage from someone trying to install a sling stud. There was the hole from the stud and a large chip had come out when the hole was drilled. You can see the repair I made in some of the photos, it is obviously a different type of wood and the stain didn't take quite as well as the rest of the stock.
The finish is RIT dye, a combination of wine and yellow, mixed with alcohol. Then covered with 4 thin coats of Zinnser Bullseye, amber polyurethane. It came out a little more red than I planned, but I think its growing on me.
