Where is the cheaptest place to buy SKS stripper clips in quantity? I heard that the blued ones work much better than the parkerized ones, is this correct? Thank you.

I paid way too much for the 20 I picked up last week. $8.99 plus tax. I knew I could have got them alot cheaper online, but I was going shooting that day and wanted them immediately.

The park'd ones take alittle wear to work really well. I just took one round and ran in up and and down several time in the stripper clip. The function great after that. I don't have any blued ones.

CDNN has fixed 20 round SKS mags.....how hard are these to install and how well do they work?

Also, how effective are the SKS conversions to accept AK mags? Who does these conversions?

The 20 rounders (I am assuming they are the ones that look like an oversize stock 10 rounder?) are hit and miss. Sometimes they do work, and sometimes they don't. Usually the sporadic ones have a star on the side. "Back in the day" there were models available that were not the stamped star variety that worked really well. These are hard to find now.

I don't think any one is actually performing a conversion for the SKS to accept AK mags per se. The ones you may have seen are Chinese SKS "M" and "D" models that were actually produced this way from the factory. They work really well, but since there aren't as many in existence, they bring a premium (usually $300.00 and up). At that price, you may as well get an AK, unless you want one just because you can.

There are plans floating around the net to do the conversion yourself on a standard AK, but unless you have access to a mill, the results may not be satisfactory.

How effective?

Effective enough to create a prohibited weapon, and get the owner some quality time at a razor-wire resort. (That would be for running afoul of the rules prohibiting conversion of an SKS to accept detachable hi-cap magazines, if the gun wasn't originally imported and configured to use them from the start.) Find an SKS-M or SKS-D if you want an SKS that accepts AK mags. Otherwise, stay with the fixed magazines.
