Are there different sks models and if so is there one that is in 7.62x39?

Thanks,

Mr.Caliber

All SKS are in 7.62x39. The only variations are the countries of origin and whether or not the parts are stamped sheet steel or machined block steel. There was also the SKS-D and SKS-M that could accept AK47 magazines, but they are now hard to find a fairly pricey. The currently imported Yugoslav SKS are machined and of very high quality for a military rifle.

As stated all SKS's are 7.62x39 and most have milled receivers.
The Yugos are nice but look for a Chinese, Russian (harder to find all the time), Romanian, or Albanian (also hard to find). All these models have chrome lined chambers and bores. Well worth the difference in price IMO.

I have both a chinese and Albanian. Sold off the Yugos.

My Yugo is very nice.

I wouldn't trade it or sell it for another, unless I could find someone to trade me a Norinco 16" paratrooper model (which is a model I don't think was mentioned here yet).

The only ones that weren't in 7.62x39 was some of the prototypes that were in 7.62x54r that was considered not reliable enough, but handled the smaller round much better. The chance of getting one is pretty much nill unless you are intending to rob a museum in Moscow.

I love the SKS and the 7.62x39 is my favorite cartridge of all time, is a proven combat round and hunting round. I only bought my Saiga in .223 because of SHTF scenarios, ammo availability and two-legged predators. But it was a close decision. If I ever have to literally "retreat" to the hills, the Saiga will get me there, and the SKS will keep me there.
