I want to replace the Elliason sights on a Colt Gold Cup with Novak's Extreme Duty tactical sights. Is it possible to fill in the existing Elliason cut and re-cut the slide for tactical sights? I know this would involve a lot of labor filling, sanding and polishing. Can anyone recommend a high quality gunsmith that would be willing to take this on? Novak's already said no.

Thanks!

I imagine EGW could do it. Don't know but from what I've read and seen online, but I hear they do excellent work.

For what you want done you will spend the better part of what a new slide hard fit to the gun will cost.

I would put a new top end on it if I just had to have those sights, the cost won't be that much higher and it will end up with higher value in the end.

If you HAVE to do this I would send it to EGW.

I agree with the change-the-slide advise, and suggest you look at Caspian Arms, Ltd. (www.caspianarms.com). Why? Because you can order the slide with the cuts milled to fit the sights of your choice.

Thanks guys for the great suggestions! I'll definitely be on the phone Monday.
EGW does nice work and Caspian has very high quality slides.
I know it would be cheaper to buy a new slide, but I am trying to keep the pistol and slide logo/lettering original.
I'll repost at the end of my project with photos and detailed cost over runs!

I don't see the point in keeping the logo and chopping up the sight installation, but if that is what you want, call EGW, they are leaders in firearms welding. It shouldn't cost you more than about $200 to convert from adjustable to fixed sights.
