For those kind enough to help me last month with my 1991A1 slide lock problem (especially Old Fuff), here's what I found: using Old Fuff's test of sliding a magazine into the field-stripped frame, I found that the magazine follower did NOT, in fact, engage the lug on the slide stop. In comparing the slide stop to the one in my 1911A1, I found that most of the lug appeared to have been sheared off! So, I am ordering a new slide stop from Wilson (not Colt!). My thanks to Old Fuff and the others who helped me with this problem!

Why are you paying for a replacement part? Even if you want an upgrade, holding Colt to its warranty one way of attempting to improve their product quality for other shooters.

Well, I figured that, since it was their part that broke, I don't want another one just like it. I have heard that Wilson's parts are very well made. Also, this is a five-year-old pistol so probably isn't still under warranty.

Thank you for the kind comments.

I agree with Handy. Even if you should buy a part from Wilson (yes, they are good) I'd send the old part back to Colt and ask for a replacement. They might not send one, but if they did you'd have a spare. Your gun may be five years old, but they are still responsible for the quality (?) of they're materials and workmanship.

Thanks to both of you. I will follow your advice and send the old slide stop back to Colt. Guess it doesn't hurt to have a spare! ;)
