I have noticed that the slide serrations on modern handguns like the Glock, Walther PPQ, Springfield XD and XDM, Kel Tec handguns, H&K usp, S&W M&P and others have more spacing than older guns like the 1911, tt33, Browning Hi Power, and Walther p38. What is the advantage of making them further apart as the older style seems to be easier to grip, hopefully it isn't just some cost cutting measure?

Modern CNC makes it much easier to machine complex shapes into steel slides.

The wider serrations also make it easier to grip the slide when wearing gloves.

The wider serrations give better grip racking the slide with an overhand grip (thumb to the rear). They don't clog as easily and stay cleaner.

I don't care for the wavy pattern on the S&W M&P, but they are really much more effective than just about every other style of serrations I've tried

I carry an M&P on duty. The serrations are very easy to grasp and manipulate.

However, those wavy lines are sharp! When I cleaned my gun after the first long training day I did with it, I noticed little bits of skin in those wavy lines. They were grippy enought to take some of the hide right off of me.
