I visited the local range recently, and was able to rent a Glock 19 and Glock 26.

I have been a revolver guy through my adult life, believing; well, nevermind what I believed...but I wasn't a fan of auto's. It wasn't that I had no experience with semi-auto guns; I have shot 1911 guns, and been surprised by how accurately I could shoot them. I was also pained by the hammer bite; so in my thinking: so much for the 1911's, and by association, most semi-autos.

Anyway, I wanted to shoot a Glock and see what all the fuss was about. So, I was very surprised by the fact that I shot both guns very accurately, and frankly, found the model 26 my favorite, really comfortable to shoot. So, I am now struggling not to trade everything I own on a new model 26...well, my revolvers, anyway:D

Wonder how long I can hold out...

Don't trade an innocent wheelie for a plastic brass spitter!

I suppose maybe if you don't own any semi-autos you could make far worse purchasing decisions than a Glock, at least it'll work, and if you shoot it well, why not?

Hold out long enough to try a few other brands. That should keep the itch at bay for a little while. I'd reccommend trying a Springfield XD and a beretta PX4 storm next.

I have handled the Beretta, and like the feel of what seems to be a "wider"? grip- The range doesn't rent them, however.

I have admired the looks of the Springfield, but have gotten the idea (somehow), that they aren't that well reputed...

Thanks for the input!

Warning: Do not try a HK!

(That little mistake was the most costly of my life - well, other than getting married!)

The only thing selling faster than a glock these days(well, except for assault rifles, thanks to the impending ban) is the springfield XD. THere's nothing wrong with them. There is a new springfield XDm that is more or less a new iimproved XD but magazines are not interchangeable. So beware of buying an XD and then wishing you'd bought the XDm when you see them.

BTW, glock is supposed to be releasing a new improved version of the glocks soon. The new version is supposed to be backward compatible with the old mags, but not the other way around. OR maybe I got it backwards. Maybe the new mags are backward compatible with the old guns, but not the other way around. I can't remember.

But that is another reason to hold off on buying a glock. wait till the new improved one comes out and see which you like best. I think it's due out sometime next spring.

The new improved springfield XDm is already out.

Try a CZ75. I love mine, as a lot of people do.

But you might like the glock more because of the DA only, like the revolvers.

All of the black characterless guns are good for shooting, makes no difference which you prefer. Except for Taurus characterless black guns, of course.

Perhaps you missed the best part about Glocks... You can buy one with the change underneath your couch cushions.

No need to trade a revolver for one. Save some pennies and just "add". :)

After only so-so results shooting revolvers and DA/SA autos, I found myself easily chewing the center out of a target with my own Glock 19 the first time out. I have now had it for 10 years. :)

sliding?

Funny, with an XD40sc, a Kimber 1911, a Walther p38, and I just sold a Springfield Ultracompact V10. My most recent purchase was a single action Blackhawk 357. Heavy, accurate and too much fun. So I now am sliding the other way. Way the other way.

Enjoy the Glock, I don't own one but have shot G30, G23, and G27. It's a great sidearm and someday I'll add one to my own stock.

Interestingly, I too have been contemplating a semi Plastic Wonder Gun Purchase. Well, Mabey not all plastic..... I've been checking out the M&P 40 lately. So far I'm 100% Revolvers, but who knows?

I picked up a G36 and it shoots surprisingly easily and well. Turns out I like Glocks and am thinking about a G21. Still keeping my 1911s.

I have had Smiths, Rugers, CZs, Bersas, Kel-Tecs, Berettas, XDs, of numerous models, revolvers and semis. I have gone though thousands of dollars trying to find the right carry gun. (my wife will attest to that) I ended up getting my first Glock (19) a few months ago - and my search is over.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like this gun. Its ugly and boring, blocky and uninspired. It looks like something a 5yr old child might have created.

But it works.

I don't like it, but I can't fault it. Its reliable, accurate, thin enough and light enough to carry daily, and when I come home at night, I pop out the 15 round mag, insert a 33 round mag, clip on a laser/light combo, and its the perfect bedside gun.

Of all the guns I've tried, (over 20) only this one works in all areas for me.

Wish I'd known that two years ago.
