Slight flare at base of casing

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to reloading and need your advice on something. I pulled out a box of once fired .280 Rem brass yesterday and noticed that there is a slight flare in the casing about 3/4" from the base. It is slight, but can be seen and felt. The entire box is this way. Is this normal? It's Winchester nickle plated brass. I don't know if that matters. Will the sizing die take care of that? I shot the rounds out of a NEF Handi Rifle. Don't know if that makes a difference either. Just need to know if this is the norm or do I need to discard the brass?

What you see is the "pressure ring" left at the point the solid case head ends and the thinner wall begins. It is normal and nothing to worry over.

Some bulging of the case at or near the head is normal. However...If it's as extreme as you discribe. It might indicate that your handy rifle has a generous chamber [photos would help]. More then likely if these are once fired cases resizing them will take care of it...

What you are seeing is normal. The pressure of the expanding gas swells the walls of the case out to contact the wall of the chamber, forming a gas seal. The brass doesn't spring back, and stays pretty much the diameter of the chamber. The sizing die should take care of that. That's what a sizing die does, size the brass back to original specifications.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Like I said, it was very slight. The only reason it's visible is probably due to the nickle plated casing. I appreciate your help.
