What's the point of a sling on an HD shotgun?

There's no need to sling up for long shots (unless ou have a BIG!!!! house), and there is no need to carry the shotgun anywhere.

There is NO point to a sling on a HD SG.

Remove it at home.
Replace it for the field.

well when you run the HD shotgun empty, wouldnt a sling come in handy to move it to your weak side while you draw your sidearm with your strong arm? or do you just drop it to the ground?

I suggest leaving the sling off in the house, easy to snag something at a terribly wrong time.

I like a sling. It allows me to do chores on our farm whilst having the scatter gun on my back.

Ya man, a proper sling on each long gun I use except for the clay shooting guns I own.

I don't use a sling on my 1300 Defender because it is my home defense gun. There's no reason for me to sling my shotgun in a home defense situation. I'm not going to be putting handcuffs on anybody, that's what the police are for. If I have to fire more than the eight rounds in the shotgun I'll drop it on the bed and grab the G20 to continue to repel boarders.

98, that's why we have QD swivels. On outside, off inside, on outside, off inside.....

Hee-hee! No QD swivel on mine, unfortunately.

Permanent front sling loop, ala' USMC Remington 870 Mark 1.

Doesn't really pose a problem to me, it came in handy during one serious episode in NorCal when the arresting officer needed my physical assistance trying to cuff a BG in my back yard.

My house AK wears a sling, too.

FYI, the first QD swivels were African, used by PHs for close work on dangerous game. Off for that, on for carry...

I have QD swivels for mine, I really can't tell you the last time I actually used them...years ago wading to a duck blind perhaps??

Before QD's I'd just slip knot a length of leather, around pistol grip and bbl, to and fro only. Actually may go back to this on next shotty...got a line on a Wingmaster Dave ...rarely used...

Oh, I agree, it makes for cleaner maneuvering.

I just never considered the sling on my 20" 870 Mark I to be a hindrance. I do, however, take up all the slack in the sling when it's sitting by the nightstand, to avoid snags. That would indeed suck in a defensive situation, to have the weapon caught on something.

I would tend to agree that a sling would get in the way. Some people may argue that a good 3 point or single point would be good for when you need to do things like open doors etc. My opinion is that it is handy for cops, much less so for home owners.
