Slip on Limbsaver

I have a Mossy 500 SP. I feel the LOP is about 1.5" too long. Could I trim the stock down, then instal one of the Limbsaver slip on recoil pads? Or is better to just get a shorter stock?
 
I bought a youth stock off of Ebay for my 500 turkey gun.
Made it just about right for us normal folks. :D
