:confused:I have a Berretta A391 Exterma, I use it for hunting birds and water fowl, I have also used it hunting game. I shot a nice doe a couple of years ago. What I have found is that when tracking wounded game in heavy cover with the stock barrel the gun is way to slow and akward getting on target. I would like to get a shorter barrel for my gun. Is it safe to shoot buckshot out of a rifled slug barrel? What will it pattern like? Does Berretta make a smooth bore slug barrel? If you can help me please post a reply. Thank You Big Daddy 44

Shooting buck/bird shot out of a rifled barrel will give you bad results. The wad will have a nasty spin on it and your pattern will open immediately after exiting the barrel. Its just not what that barrel is made for.

There is a defense revolver call the "Judge" that uses a rifled barrel to shoot .45s and .410 ga shot shells. They say that when shooting the .410s the pattern will open right after exiting the barrel, thats were I'm getting this ideology from.

Nelson has it correct - we have had members try to use rifled barrels with buckshot loads and it gives doughnut shaped patterns.... :(

heres a good question that will get lots of responses, why not use the rifles barrel with buckshot in a HD situation so you can get max spread really quick and then you wouldnt have to aim.

Note: Im not really serious about the aiming thing but it seems everyone is trying to get something for nothing out of their firearms.

Could this be feasable though?

Anyone who doesn't "aim" during a home defense situation, doesn't always survive to tell about it. If course you have to aim.

+1 On shooting Buck through a smoothbore slug barrel in a HD situation-
