There are hybrids among us... part rifle, part shotgun...
The savage 220f Slug rifle is capable of 2-4 inch groups at 200yds with the right flavor of sabot slugs for that particular gun. I have heard the same of the H&R slug gun and the Tar Hunt (too pricey for me). There are several federal wildlife management areas within driving distance from me that only allow shotguns for deer hunting, and only a couple of days per year... and as a result not a lot of people around here hunt those areas and the deer are more plentiful and larger in size than some of the other public hunting areas available to me locally.
But... I just don't consider a fully rifled slug gun as a shotgun, more like an unfair advantage. I think of it more as a 45-50 caliber rifle with a limited range (which is NO problem around here). No one I know of that hunts these areas uses dedicated slug guns, just about everyone hunts with old Rem 870s or Moss 500s loaded with foster slugs or buckshot. In fact, I have never even seen a a dedicated slug gun (or for that matter one with a decent scope) at any of the local gun shops or even the big box stores in this area.
Needless to say... I want one... and want one BAD! I think it would be just the ticket for federal WMAs in my area and completely negate the shotgun only handicap.
I'm thinking a Savage 220f Slug gun with a Nikon 3x9x40 shotgun scope...
Not sure if this should be in rifles or shotguns... because its technically both... and ideas?
