Slugs from a full choke?

Haven't shot much latly, but in the past when I would be trap shooting with my own target thrower and using my 28" accu-choke bbl I always use the full choke and never anything else. The only time I switch chokes is when I decide to shoot slugs. I then take out the full and replace it with improved cylinder. It even says in the manual to do that. It does get annoying to keep switching chokes because my shoulder would very quickly get tired of them hard kicking slug loads and I would want to switch back to using my light shot loads.

My question is will it damage the threads on the choke tube and barrel if I fired a slug through a full choke or would I just get crappy accuracy? I am also asking this because I have a friend who owns a single shot NEF 12 gauge that has a fixed full choke and he wants to shoot slugs, but not sure if it's safe for the barrel.

Oh yeah and before anyone tells me to get a rifled slug barrel or a cylinder bore barrel, don't bother telling me because I already have both of them and even got a .50 caliber muzzleloading barrel somewhere. I just don't like bringing a bunch of stuff when I go shooting.

Some slugs are undersized enough to fit through a full choke. Some aren't. If you fire one that isn't... Ever see a cartoon where a character sticks their finger, a cork, a carrot, etc. down a gun barrel?

Foster slugs will swage right thru a full choke. However you have written instructions theat says not to use the full choke, a wise man follows instructions in such matters.

The "rifling" on slugs is there not to spin the slug but so it will pass through tight chokes without damage .For my gun I would only do it very occassionally. NEVER shoot a shotgun without a choke in place .

It won't damage your choke and who knows for certain about accuracy without testing. The expectation is poorer accuracy, but the target tells all.

Improved Cylinder and Modified chokes GENERALLY*** work better for the plian lead rifled {is it Foster? or Forster?} slugs.

Full choke only adds recoil impulse with USUALLY*** no improvement in accuracy.

***I say usually, because every shotgun/barrel/choke/ammo combination is a rule unto itself.

I always load the foster slug in the modified barrel of my modified/full twice pipe. It works just fine, kicks like hell, but works just fine.

any choke all the time. Works just fine. I would not shoot a slug in a full choked gun.....chris3

Firing it without a choke in place is begging for the threads to get bunged up.
