Hey all,

This may be a stupid question (and they do exist!), but I haven't been able to get a straight answer from anyplace.

Is it safe to fire slugs through a barrel with a fixed Full Choke? If so, what types?

According to Brenneke, their slugs can be fired through full chokes due to the "fins" cast into the slug itself.

Yes. Rifled or Forster style lead slugs - like Brenneke's - are perfectly safe fired through a full choke. And they can be pretty accurate. Note - I said may. Only way to know for sure is to shoot it and see.
I agree there are stupid questions, but this ain't one. There is so much hogwash on the net I can understand your confusion. I see guys saying all the time "No, don't do it" for all kinds of imagined reasons. There are so many old full choked shotguns out there that the ammo makers couldn't stand the costs if they made slugs that wouldn't go thru a full choke without serious consequences. You may not be able to hit a barn at 30 yards with some combinations, but you are not going to blow yourself up.
And now, someone can tell us how their uncle-in-law's third cousin twice removed split the barrel on a fine old valuable Acme Hardware vintage klassic single barrel split the barrel shooting a slug. And that barrel was sound as a dollar - only had a slight bend in it before that.

Yes. Like Virginian says, they may be as accurate as most news reports on TV, but they will not damage the shotgun.

Thank you very much you guys! I'll give it a shot and see how they do!

As stated above, standard "rifled" slugs can be fired through any choke. Sabot slugs and Remington "copper solids" are another issue altogether. The original sabot slugs, the BRI as loaded by S&W years ago were marked "cylinder" only...they were wasp waisted and would often break if shot through choked guns.
Most people get the best accuracy with the standard rifled slugs in modified or imp. cyl barrels...in fact, most arms makers originally, before rifled shotgun barrels, made their slug barrels in I.C. choke.
You gotta try em to see what shoots best. The old rifled slugs through a cylinder barrel never proved out too well for me and I've shot thousands...both foster factory loads, foster handloads, Lyman sabot reloads and BRI, Lightfield, Brenneke, Hornady, Federal, and so on. From my experience, I'd recommend the Federal Tru Ball as the ones that have performed best in a wide variety of barrels. Close or a tie would be either the standard Rottweil Brenneke and the newer Nobel Strike Slugs. These last two work well out of both smoothbore as well as rifled barrels, giving me two to two and a half inches at fifty yards and on a good day, five at 100.
