I've got an old Mossberg .410 and I have always wanted to try shooting slugs from it just to see what it was like but I'm not quite sure if I can. It is a model 183 and it has a weird choke at the end and I don't know if its safe to shoot slugs from it with the choke. Have you guys ever shoot slugs from this model and if so would I have to shoot rifled slugs? Thanks

Sounds like the old external choke system Mossberg used..
It should say 410IC, 410 M, 410F or something like that.
IC=Imp Cyl choke M=Modified choke F=Full choke, etc..

Standard forster type rifled slugs can be shot in it, or anything else.

It would be better if it is a IC or M, but if it isn't don't worry about it.

You can twist the choke according to your preference and everything's labeled so I can just adjust it.

If it's labeled for adjustment then it's a C-Lect choke, there were a few made. Slugs can be fired through it but will cause a lot of lead fouling between the choke petals.

I wasn't really worried about the fouling because I can always clean that but I just didnt want the slug to strike the "petals".
