I have really small hands and need some recommendations on pistols that other small-hand shooters feel comfortable with. From what I've been reading so far, I need to be looking for something with...

- short trigger pull
- thin profile (single stacks only?)

Any suggestions?

Similar boat here, I have long fingers but small hands. I'm a little bit short of a men's medium size for gloves FWIW.

Single stacks are a safe bet. All .22 pistols I've fondled have been single stack so plinking isn't an issue at least. The 1911 can be a godsend as many full sized .45s that aren't single stack will be too big.

Compact designs/models also can work. A full sized HK USP in .45 feels a bit too big for me, but a compact works. The Springfield XDs also have felt nice.

Other calibers haven't had the same limited range in fit from what I've tried, but this is obviously just limited to my hands. This is going to obviously vary from person to person.

Short trigger pull may restrict you to a single action auto as the double action has such a long trigger reach. Some guns [P2000, S&W MP] have interchangeable backstraps so you can pick the best [1911 also - arched vs flat mainspring housing]. You can purchas e thin grips for some guns like the 1911. Small autos like the Kahr , though DAO, may be a solution.

My P345, after shooting my CZ75, almost feels too small in my hands. The grip is very thin, and trigger reach in sa, is kinda cramp. A great gun for small hands:)Heres a comparison between my CZ75, P345 and P11

My daughter has very small hands. She shoots J frams, Kahr KM9, 1911's.

Most people can shoot a 1911 with different triggers and grips.

One gun that seems to fit most all sizes of hands - in my experience - are the subcompact Glocks. I have large, wide hands and long fingers - my girlfriend has smaller hands, long fingers... My mom has itty bitty hands, and I have a cousin with wide hands and short, fat fingers... I have numerous other friends with hand types as unique as they are. We all love the feel of a "baby" Glock. They just seem to fit most hands.

They are double stack mags, but still pretty slim in profile. You don't have to go single stack to accomodate small hands. Grip angle on a Glock is another thing altogether. I'd suggest (at least) holding one to see if it fits you... The 1911 is also a really good suggestion, but in the end, none of us can tell you what will feel best in your hands. When you find it, make sure you let us know what fits you best!

...and welcome to THR! :)

Thank you all for the recommendations. I'll try to see if some of my local shooting ranges rent the above mentioned handguns. I'll be sure to follow up with what worked.

How small is small? My Mechanix gloves are a size small (8) and fit fine.

I like to shoot my Glock 17.

My gloves are a mens small and the grip on my Taurus 24/7 Pro 9mm is great. The grip on the CZ75 Compact is also quite nice.

One more addition to the list: The CZ75B-SA. This is the single action only version, which works great for small hands (as opposed to the standard DA/SA version).

I wear small size mens gloves, and the fingers are usually too long. :uhoh:
Some pistols that fit me well are 1911s, hi-powers, S&W 3914, browning buckmark, springfield XD9.
Good luck.

I have small hands. the Taurus 24/7 9mm fits me great, 1911 fits fabulous, my M457 S&W is too big. An Ed Brown 1911 fit the best. But the guy that owned it wanted it back, and had 2 of his friends to back up his desire... :)

Yes, the 1911 is a single stack.

I don't know why but the G17 is comfortable to me, but it is about the largest that is comfortable to shoot for an extended period.

Your best bet is going to a decent gun shop, let them know you are looking to find a gun that fits you and go from there trying different ones on.

sig P239

try the sig P239. i have small hands and it fits me well. My pointability with that model is great. i pick up the gun and quickly point at a target and then i check my point of aim with the sights and it's right on. i do a lot of shooting at my local gun club and i practice drawing and point shooting. The gun is accurate also, i can hit the head shots on the target out to 40 yards (slow fire).
The gun weight is ok and the gun hides well on my (fatboy) frame. i carry it in a glaco inside the waist holster. It's a single stack and you ca get it in 9mm,357sig & 40.

I also have two delimas, small fingers and small hands. I have found that for a .45 the Tanfoglio Witness is a good gun. It also is a double stack. I also have a RUssian Makarov that is perfect for me. It is small and slimmer, and is also a very good shooter.
