hello everyone
i have a smith 1911 45 apc that i purchased a year or so ago

i do not know much about (models) of 1911 guns . the sights on this gun are palin black and i have a hard time focusing on them, i have seen many in catologs but they always indicate for a particular frame, the only identifieng marks on this gun are s@w 1911. no other model #s or identifieng marks other than the serial #
can anyone tell me what i have or tell me how to figure out what i have so i can replace my sights to fiber optic
and i dont know if this helps but i have a 5'' berrel and it is a silver finish with wood grips
thanks

There are many sights available for the S&W 1911. I believe S&W actually uses Novak sights, one of the major after market sight makers. Novak should be able to provide you with just about anything you want. Other manufactures will make sights for a "Novak cut".

However, I would certainly have the new sights installed by a competent gunsmith. There is some skill involved and special tools required to install the sights properly.

If you don't have a local gunsmith, you could even send your pistol or just the slide to Novak to have them install the new sights.

What is the SKU ? Perhaps you didn't know but sight dovetail cuts are S&W proprietary so you need to verify any sights you buy first fit your model SW1911. This is one of biggest failings of the SW1911 line. BTW, S&W licenses the Novak design for their sights and has them made by others. They are not typical "Novak cut" either.
IMHO the best bet is to apply 2-3 coats of florescent orange acrylic paint to the front sight. The paint is available from WMT or Michaels for ~$1.00 and is very durable. If you want you can use white on the rear sight.

i got the box out and the scew # is 108284
can you tell me about this gun
thanks

the SKU 108284 is the regular production line 5" 1911 in stainless steel steel with adjustable rear sights

what else did you want to know?

S&W web page for your pistol - http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...angId=-1&parent_category_rn=15709&isFirearm=Y. Probably more info than we can provide.

If you want Novak to fix your sights, you can send your slide and they will install a new set of your choice (from their stock of coarse). Or you can send the entire pistol and they will install new sights and sight the pistol in with your choice of ammo. The former is the cheapest since you don't have to ship overnight and pay for their range time and ammo. The latter will get you better accuracy. Just for reference, I sent Novak the slide off a P229 that had the wrong sights from the factory. They installed the proper set. When I got the slide back and pistol together it was dead on. The folks at Novaks know what they're doing when it comes to sights and installation.

thanks tincanhunter
