Smith 3rd Gen question

With my new addiction the Smith 3rd gen, does anyone here think that someday they will have collectors value? Not so much as a rare luger but do you think the value will start to increase instead of lower? It's the weirdest gun I've ever been hooked on, because for years I have had chances to own them and other than a 3913LS I have passed them over for the new best thing. All of a sudden I find myself bidding on them every time I find one I don't have. Man I wish I was into them back when I worked at a gun shop.

So many were made, in a dizzying array of models (basically the same guns but differing in calibers, action types, metals, finishes, sights and grips), plus the numerous police trade-ins on the market, that I doubt if they will gain collector value for many years. (As far as it is possible to see the future. ) Also, they tend to be looked down or frowned on, mostly, I think, by folks who never actually owned one. Some, like the 3913LS I coincidentally own, are a little better than others.

No probably not, unless it was truly rare...ie the 1046 (less than 150 ever made) Several recently went for over $3000 on GB.

As far as the rest of the line Haranguer is correct, way to many made, way to many available and frankly has no real standout features.

They are solid, well built tanks, by a company still in business with no unique or oddball design or part.

Of course if the political wind changes all guns may have collector value

That either the TSW series or the Cheif specials would gain value in the next 5 years.

Hard to say. At least the CS Series has been produced in fewer numbers.

I think it's really hard to say what will and won't appreciate in value. While the 3rd Gen pistols aren't a good bet overall some individual pistols are such standouts or were produced in low enough numbers that they may get the value. Plus, with all of the variations some may end up being worth more. It's hard to say, but as far as investments there are better bets.

The guns are not investments but these guns can be had for such reasonable prices that it would be hard to lose money on one going forward. I think they are like the Model 10 revolver. If you had bought a used one at any time in the last 50 years, could you have lost money on the deal? Not likely in my opinion.
