I just got this in from SOG - ordered it yesterday!

HPIM1030.JPG

Stainless slide, alloy frame (is fairly light), 15+1 round capacity, DAO, 3.75" barrel. Actually came with tritium sights but it wasn't listed as such - they still glow too, though they are obviously old.

Price was $279.95 plus mandatory overnight shipping - $303.

I'm very happy with it - has some holster wear but the bore is pristine and the innerds are like new. Obviously carried a lot, shot little - probably an LEO trade.

Looking forward to shooting it this weekend.

Nice Gun. I got a 4046 from Mark at Summit a while back and it has been 100% reliable. These S&Ws are fine guns and they are a bargain at the prices they are selling for.

You can have the sites replaced by Trijicon for about $60 including postage roundtrip for the slide to the Trijicon factory. I had mine done on the 4046 when one of the back dots stopped shining. I bought a green front and yellow rear and I like the combo very much.

Very nice gun at a good price. I have it's smaller brother the 6946 and they are very nice shooters with the half cocked DAO. :)

I've heard about the custom shop shorty forty

but I'm not sure if this is the same design or not. Good to know about the trijicons - I knew you could get replacement tubes but not how much.

And yeah, the DAO trigger is much lighter than I expected and very short travel - should make for good accuracy and quick followups.

I really do think these are a heckava bargain for the price. A great way to get a great high cap light weight carry piece.

Makes me want to order another one.

So many guns, so little money!

The Shorty Forty was actually built in three or four different versions. I think most of them were built on the 6900 frame. They were built to a little higher standard than the other 3rd generation guns. If you are interested in the Shorty Forty you can go over to the Smith-Wesson forum and do a search. They have had quite a few discussions with a lot of interesting details.
