Hello everyone, recently just purchased a smith and wesson m&p AR 15-22 platform for economic shooting. Everything about this purchase is exceptional.

However, I'm just curious, what is the effective range of this weapon in yards. Im considering putting an optic on it for target practice, taking it out as far as it is capable.

What optic would you suggest, aimpoint reflex, eotech holo, something that wont break the bank, I'm not very savy with optics persay.

Thanks!

I have one with a 2-7X scope on mine. A 1-4X might have been a better choice, but I had the 2-7 laying around so I used it. I like the rifle quite a bit by the way and it provides cheap practice for my AR.

For 22's I normlly plink or target practice at 50 yards or less. I could make hits on squirrel or rabbit most of the time at that range given a solid rest of some sort. With good ammo mine is good for around 1" groups or maybe a hair less at that range.

I occasionally move out to 100 yards with some of my more accurate 22's but that is as far as I shoot with 22 RF. Some guys have worked at 200 yards or even farther. That is really pushing the limits. Even a very slight breeze will blow a 22 bullet around a lot beyond 100 yards.
