Close reading reveals he didn't sell it. Rather, he turned it over to a member while retaining Administrator power and some executive decision making capability and preventing the new operator from selling it to another or doing anthing against his wishes or reinstating banned members... etc... etc... etc...

Sounds to me like he really hasn't let go all that much.

I believe we have an "ad hominem" attack here. We just got done with an interminable presidential campaign of that garbage. I am on that forum pretty regularly and don't feel put upon.

Sounds like some unresolved "issues" here.

Count me among those who do not really care, please.

The man in question is known for having quite a temper. Cross him (and it doesn't take much) and suffer his wrath.

Some people also think that he's somewhat capricious in applying his own rules, with some hogs being more equal than others.

I've been a member over there for about four years, and have no complaints. I've dealt with some really good people and learned an awful lot about S&W revolvers.

I've seen a few people banned, and the ones I've seen well and truly deserved it.

I hope the forum survives and thrives.

Sounds like my experience over at the gunbroker forum. Man oh man what is that saying about stones and glass houses.

+1.

Anyone who read any of the 50+ page threads on those he banned could see he's got some issues.

The guy taking over is a commercial collector of S&W handguns who's on record saying he'll use the classifieds for business. Isn't that what they banned Fugate from doing?

His whole line on the posters represent him and vice versa turned me off. Methinks my days over there are probably limited.

I'm not a fan of psych therapy, but I'd almost chip in to get this guy some help.

Isn't there a whole 'nother forum established and populated by people Packwood (Parabellum) banned off of his Sigforum?

And as to the new owner of the S&W forum using his powers for his own biz, he said he would not buy a gun advertised unless it had been listed on the forum for three days. That's not out of line.

The Fugates, according to the hundreds of pages of threads dedicated to them (on the S&W forum), weren't just making deals. According to the running threads the Fugates would contact a seller after the seller had sold to somebody, then offer more for the gun. Also they were reputed to have bought a gun somebody else wanted, then offered the same gun (to the other person who had wanted the gun) for more money.

I consider the above to be sleazy business practices, but no worse than a lot of other businesses. I never personally dealt with them. All I know is what happened over there. Personally, I've checked their website and their prices are significantly higher on the things I'm interested in. I can find better deals elsewhere.

But I think what got them banned from the site was the fact that they flaunted themselves to parabellum. They got into a cussing war and threatened each other.

I think they all have issues.

Interesting side note: Now that parabellum's fan base has decreased (he sold the Ruger forum and now has limited his control over the S&W forum), plus so many of his former loyalists off of the Sigforum have been banned or just quit (you can find them at the 2ndamendment forum), he's on the Sigforum almost like he's a regular guy. I say, "almost."

Because yesterday somebody posted a complaint thread about a dealer who fell on hard times. The sigforum members chipped in to the tune of something like $10 grand to help him out. Then the guy who gets the help posts how he bet two ARs on the '08 election. Then another member took him to task for gambling the guns when the members had already given him so much money.

The upshot was that parabellum came on like his own self and wouldn't allow anybody to ask any questions. Then he deleted the threads that implicated the guy.

That place is better than Peyton Place sometimes.

Rocinante- I do not recognize your name but if you are suggesting that I was unfair in applying the rules during my stint as a moderator at the GB Forum then your complaint is totally unfounded. I always applied the rules evenly and that's why I proved to be unpopular and ultimately quit. Many members didn't want the rules enforced, some didn't want ANY rules, and when I went by the book I was vilified and administration failed to support me with anything more than lukewarm lip service.

Absolutely. I've seen threads where he blatantly violated his own rules, and when somebody called him on it, he told them he owned the place and didn't have to abide by the rules. I've also seen, where his "explanation" didn't float with said poster, he just outright banned them.

He's got some real problems. I wonder if he's short?

I am at a loss to determine how this discussion furthers our understanding of or appreciation for guns and gun collecting and gun knowledge and the like. It's also something less than High Road. If you've got a beef with this guy or his forum, take it up with him on his ex-forum.

Lighten up, guys. No discord here. Just adult discussion of a current event. Taking "the high road" doesn't mean avoiding discussions of personalities and events as long as they remain civil. I see no incivility in the thread.

There's been some name calling, from the profane (a-hole) to the silly (must be short).

I fail to see how the comings and goings at other forums is a topic worthy of discussion here. There is no profit in such gossip, and the potential to sow hate-n-discontent is always very real.

Maybe it's cathartic a lot of people have been burned by this guy. I remember in one of his posts where after kicking someone out he told his minions to drag the carcuss around for awhile.:fire::evil:

Agree completely. Some of the behavior in this thread demonstrates that some of you don't quite grasp the concept of "taking the high road."
