I bought one of these and it (the gun and caliber) has become my favorite. The front fiber optic sight is weak (small and does not gather much light).

Anyway, I am a decent shot and this gun is making me better. I'd like to tweak it but have never done any mods to a gun before.

Anybody have one of these? Do I change the spring and guide? If so to what and will it help with recoil?

Sights - I like the F/O front but would like a better one and maybe an adjustable rear...any suggestions?

OR should I leave it alone.

It depends on what you want from the weapon. I have one that I shoot IDPA with and it works great. The Burwell work is very good. I did the work on mine and the trigger is very nice. As far as the sights go, I shoot outside alot and changed the FO to red which I really like. Outside it picks up a lot of light and glows nicely. You didn't mention how long you have had it or how you shoot it. I would just suggest you get a good idea what you want out of the weapon before you change anything. They are pretty damn good right out of the box.
 
DO NOT DO THE BURWELL TRIGGER JOB ON A M&P 9 PRO!!! A majority of that self-help trigger guide involves reshaping the sear. The M&P 9 Pro Series already has the optimum shape for the sear and you would wind up with a useless firearm. The Burwell trigger job was meant for all the other M&Ps.

I do own a M&P 9 Pro as well as a M&P 40 FS, M&P 357 FS and a M&P 9c. I can tell you with certainty that the M&P 9 Pro has the least amount of recoil of the bunch. It is one of the few firearms that I own where I would not change a thing... It is perfect right out of the box.

If the front sight does not work for you, you could just change the color of the fiber optic rod. This would be easier than changing and centering a new front sight.

You need to forget about the Burwell Trigger Job on the PRO series M&P. It's trigger is only 4 lbs. or so from the factory. The trigger job you are hearing about on the net ,is for the standard M&Ps which come with 6.5 Lbs of pull for the 9mm ,357sigs, and 40S&W caliber guns, fullsize or compact.
 
The sights sound as if they are not working for you and could stand improvement. The "trick" recoil system, on the other hand, sounds about as useful as a sunroof on a submarine. ;)
 
Thanks - I will leave the trigger as is and try the Burwell job on my M&P .40

Someone mentioned changing the color of the front sight F/O rod. Also, I was told to go with a Dawson adjustable rear so I could adjust for different loads in the future. Does someone sell F/O the rods by the inch or foot?

I don't know much about the different competitions yet. I just want to shoot a standard service pistol with people that will make me better. I want to stay away from the scoped pistols with all the high dollar mods. I think IDPA is what i'm looking for but I'll have to do some homework.

This gun is just AWESOME
 
Not true. There are parts of the DIY trigger job that will still help the trigger pull. The firing pin safety plunger shaping for example will lighten and smooth out the take up.
 
How long have you had the gun? Those fiber optic rods don't last very long before they go dull. I go through several a year. Rods are cheap.
 
ROBMOORE,

Had the gun a little over a year now and the f/o front sight is still pretty bright. Took it out the other day after a few months of rest and the darn thing won't go into slide lock on its own. I don't limp-wrist shots and used the same ammo as always. Locks up manually but not after the last round on this latest session.


Pretty bright is relative to this particular rod which was not exactly blinding me in the first place - just no worse
