I received 2 S+W revolvers. One is a .22, the other a .38, both are identical weight. Believe that makes them a collectors item.

The .38 has special ctg on the barrel. serial # is 28305

The .22 has long rifle ctg on the barrel, serial # is 11483

any idea if these are valuable?
thanks

You most likely have K22 and K38 Masterpiece revolvers.

In 1950 or 1951, S&W started making the centerfires (there is also a K32, very scarce) with wider ribs on the barrels to bring the weight up to the same 38 1/2 ounces as the K22 with its smaller holes in barrel and cylinder. They called those the Heavy Masterpieces. For a while, they cataloged both the "regular" K32 and K38 Masterpiece (36 3/4 oz, 36 oz) alongside the Heavy Masterpieces (all 38 1/2 oz.)
Probably used up the lighter barrels and did not make more, by 1959 all they showed were the 38 1/2 oz guns.

Collector's items? Not unless they are in new condition, S&W made those guns for 30 or 40 years and there are a lot of them out there. Good solid revolvers, great shooters, not yet so jacked up in price as to limit them to collectors and speculators.

Valuable? Sure, asking prices on GunsAmerica $400 - $600+ each. Maybe a little more if you can PROVE they were bought together and kept together all this time. But not "collector's items" to make a killing on.

Somebody will come along with the book to look up your serial numbers and say when they were made.

By the way, asq1234 (and everybody else with a Smith & Wesson) "CTG" stands for "Cartridge." It is just part of the caliber designation, not a secret code that means you have some Special gun.

Your Serial numbers question?

Do either or both have K serial number prefixes?

They should have, if they are in fact K-22 or K-38 Masterpieces.

If they don't, we need more info & perhaps pictures to ID them correctly.

"...Believe that makes them a collectors item..." Nope. Like Jim says, not unless they're in 'new' condition, in the original boxes and unfired.
