I love the feel of the grips that came with this lovely 19-4 nickel snub but not so much the appearance, mostly the coloring which is washed-out walnut.

I'd like to dress her up with something that shows off all her curves and yet retains her ability to pack nicely.

I'll bet there's a few members here who might feel inclined to show their Smith snubs so I can pilfer ideas ;)

They don't look that bad to me.

Clean them with an old toothbrush & Lemon Oil Furnature Polish, add a T-Grip and:

Choot'm Lizibet! Choot'm!

Bah, ditch the factory grips. Never met one I liked enough to keep. It would look gorgeous with a set of ivory, ivory substitute or stag. Slap on a polished T-grip if you like.

Need to follow my own advice with my 2" model 15.

With stock grips and a Tyler T, it would look similar to this....

I would have to go with what CraigC said; a nice pair of ivory (or some sort of ivory substitute), or stag with a Tyler T-Grip adapter. Still very concealable yet dressed up enough to show your nickeled Model 19 off.

I like dark grips on a nickle gun but keep Pachmayr rubber grips on all mine as I think thay are the most comfortable to shoot with.

I don't find that any of the factory S&W grips are all that nice. If you get some nicely figured wood purely by accident then it's masked by the heavy handed checkering and perimeter grooving that looks like a moat around a housing developement.

Craig, is that your gun in the gun porn picture? If it is I don't see what you dislike about those grips. They are lovely. If they need anything at all it would be simply a solvent wash to deep clean out the wood grain from the hand oils and sweat/dirt accumulated from time and use and re-oil them with some tung oil or Tru-Oil or similar products. The colour and shaping of the grips themselves looks great!

Of course if those grips don't fit your hand well then all bets are off. First and foremost the grips need to fit the shooter.

The color rendering of the grips pictured is not true to life, if they looked like the ones in the picture I would like them a lot more. They are much more orange in reality. I have my doubts they are original to the gun since they appear to have seen more action than the gun. I know wood is softer than steel but these look like they moonlighted as castanets in the local junior high's production of "La Bamba".

Dumb question but if I strip and refinish do the little S&W medallions need to be removed? If so, how?

Yep! It's not that I dislike the grips, they're gorgeous cocobolo Ahrends' combat grips with a really beautiful deep reddish color and lots of black streaking. The pic doesn't do them justice. I just prefer "white" (ivory, substitute or stag) grips on "silver" (stainless or plated) guns. Cocobolo is an oily wood that doesn't take an applied finish. They're usually just polished and waxed. That's an old pic and the grips were probably nearly new at the time anyway. One of these days I'll get around to putting some ivory or stag on it.

After trying the original equip Uncle Mike grips and the houge bantam grip. I decided to order and installed a set of S&W stock grips on my 642. Just feels like a revolver should.
