Trying to pin down current value on an original Model 22 for a friend. Albeit I'm a Colt revolver fan, but I've searched high & low & outside of the Blue Book have found nada. The weapon is 98% with original box.

Thanks...Funnel

Thanks Shade. Yep he said he has the "original gold box", etc. I'll see it this weekend. I'd kind of thought after reading there were only 1200 made at least a couple references might be good to set a value.

If it is actually stamped Model 22 the value is considerable. Only a handful have been spotted by collectors. I would think $3,000+ with box.

Thanks Saxon. I spoke with him today & the barrel is marked "Smith & Wesson" & ".45 CAL Model 1950" (may be Model of 1950, I don't remember).

I know of two 45 caliber 1950 models: the Military (became the Model 22) with fixed sights, exposed ejector rod and a 5.5" barrel and the Target Model (became the Model 26) with adjustable sights, shrouded ejector rod and 6.5" barrel. Of the two, the former is more rare (less than 4,000 made) and has more monetary value.
