I posted a question about smith's now-unchromed parts a few days ago, and thanks for the replies... What about the finish on their scandium revolvers like the 329? I realize the scandium alloy is probably annodized, but what about the steel parts such as the barrel liner? Are they blued? I have a preference for stainless, but running a patch down the barrel and oiling a few parts every night is a lot less work than oiling an entire gun, so I guess it wouldn't be too bad.

My intended use for the gun is for fishing & hiking in Alaska. Someone mentioned on the other thread that keeping a gun stowed in a watertight case while on the saltwater would be neccessary even for a stainless handgun, and that seems like very sound advice. The 329 sounds like an excellent gun to have strapped on the chest while the arms are busy dipnetting for salmon, and maybe for hiking; I like going to Prince of Whales Island, and there aren't very many brownies to worry about around there.

The barrel is stainless. Hammer and trigger are MIM, which is very corrosion resistant. The screws are stainless. There's really not much to worry about except the springs, and they're pretty well protected. I carry a couple of PD series guns on a daily basis, in a super-high corrosion environment. Wipe them down every couple of months, whether they need it or not.
