Have been looking for a good optical solution for this AR and would like to hear other's insight on the subject.

I've been considering
EOTECH 553
Trijicon several models........mostly some of the ACOG models, but man they have alot of great stuff...
Aimpoint ML3

Anyway would like to hear some insight, maybe someone has used something better. Thanks in advance for your time.

Wow, there is really not a bad choice in the lot.

If you want magnification, the Trijicon ACOG is much better than the other options.

If most of your shooting will be combat ranges of 0-250 yards the Eotech or Aimpoint would be preferred by most.

If you get the chance try them all out and make your choice from there.

Don't forget to check out the Leupold CQ/T. Very very versatile sight for less than an ACOG, the reticle of an EOTECH, NV capability, zoom, and a black/lit reticle so no dependency on batteries.

How are your eyes? For me, acquiring a brown IDPA target against a dirt berm at 100yds can be a problem sometimes and this is one reason I like magnification even at closer ranges where an Eotech/Aimpoint might be faster for many.

Eyes

My eyes are pretty good, but I haven't looked at a lot of sights with power amplification.

I'm colorblind, so that may or may not be an issue. Sometimes it actually helps me pick out things that individuals with access to the full spectrum would miss.

Any information provided is appreciated, thanks.

I don't know how an EOtech would look to someone who is colorblind with the red reticle...

Only partially colorblind, well that's not true. I'm really colorblind, but most people who are colorblind can see colors. Looked it up once, only like 5% of all colorblind people are black and white only. I can see six of the 10 primary colors. Just confuse blue and purple and green and brown. That's the only reason I mentioned it. The statement about that Bartholomew Roberts mentioned " acquiring a brown IDPA target against a dirt berm at 100yds "

Not sure about that, may or may not be okay. I'm usually able to pick things out pretty good. Of course that's might be part of being a type A perfectionist....or something..... ;)

If you are red/green colorblind, then the amber reticles will stand out much better for you (from what I understand talking to those people, I'm not colorblind myself). For most other people the red contrasts better than amber.

If you are looking for amber reticles, you will want to look heavily at Trijicon since they are one of the few manufacturers making a lot of amber reticle optics. I don't think either the Eotech or Aimpoint come in anything but red.

I'm still looking around and it's probably between an EOtech and a Trijicon. Borrowed my brother-in-laws, ACOG and it worked pretty good.

My question is how come EOTECH doesn't have any information on there newest HWS(s). Has anyone else noticed this? Specifically there is no information on their website about the 553 and the 557, just oversight or because maybe they're not worried about marketing. I figure it's becasue they merged with L-3 or because the military is buying 90+% of what they produce. Just wanted to see what other think.

I'll probably try emailing them just to see if I can get any more information about them. I like that there is finally a EOTech with magnification available.

I've always wanted an ACOG, but man are they expensive. Sure they might be great but I don't know if I could ever bring myself to fork over that much for one.........

But man do they look:cool:

I have an Aimpoint CompML2 and I really like it, got it brand new at a gunshow not too long ago for $325 and I'm very happy with it. Night vision would be a neat option to have, especially for home desfense, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend much more than what I did, but looking back I do wish I had sprung for the M3 if I remember correctly it was about $100 more.

It all comes down to personal preference. Eotech, ACOG and Aimpoint are all good.

I happen to like the Eotech - I love the 1 MOA dot, and the price is right. A damn ACOG starts getting into almost the cost of your rifle.
