Smith & Wesson SW9GVE (9mm sigma)-Field Stripping difficult?

Just got my new 9mm S&W....(no, I don't want to get into yet another painfully pointless Glock vs Sigma debate )

I tried field stripping it and could barely move the barrel...
I've seen some info online about previous Sigmas having roller pins to push out before stripping it, but I dont see them here and the manual certainly doesnt reference them.

Anyone else have this model or experience with it?
Maybe this a newb issue...am I missing something obvious?
Any help or reference would be appreciated. Thanks!

Its been a while, but if I remember right, Ensure the weapon is unloaded, pull the trigger, pull back on the slide about 1/4 of an inch, pull down on the takedown latch on bith sides of the barrel, and then the slide should come right off.

I took one down in my local gunshop....same exzact procedure as GLOCK..if my memory serves me right

The only parts of the Sigmas held in by pins are the two pieces of the trigger assembly, front and back. I've had the back one out for cleaning, but I've never moved the front one. The Sigma has the easiest take-down I've ever run into. The key is to make sure you pull the trigger (after clearing the chamber) before you try to take it apart. Numerous times I've fussed with it when not completely paying attention and felt dumb. Cleaning the internals on the slide is a bit more interesting, however. You shouldn't have to do this for quite a while unless you use really dirty ammo or steel case like Wolf. Then you'll have to get all those nasty flecks of varnish out. Ah Haaaa!

OK, so I figured it out....and I figure some other poor sap may have the same problem some day and Google this topic out of desperation.

Turns out the manufacturers instructions on field-stripping leave out one step!

The directions instruct the user to pull the trigger and release before pulling back the slide and pulling down the takedown latch.

However, it only works IF...after pulling back the slide 1/8 inch and pulling down the takedown latch, you AGAIN PULL THE TRIGGER IN AND HOLD IT IN while pushing the slide off the gun!!

Not sure if this is the 'new' version of the Sigma dsigned to be just different enough from the Glock or what, but there it is....cant wait to go shoot a few hundred rounds!

I've never fieldstripped either of my two Sigmas (357V and a 9VE) any differently than my Glocks. I don't use the method you post b/c it was not the recommended method by the factory. What you describe will also work for Glock (I used to know a Glock armorer who had a habit of doing this as well). I don't see how you can harm the gun by doing it this way.

Not wishing to inflame the already festering wounds, but my SW40F takes down just like my Glock 23!!
