Walked in the LGS the other day, and was checking out the used gun cabinet, as I always do, when I spotted something I don't think I've ever seen before.

A "Shooter" grade Colt Python.

And it had a 4" barrel. And it was priced less than a grand. :what:

It looked rough however. Fine rust and gunk all over it. The grips were worn and sweat stained. The bore looked filthy. Still it locked up tight as a drumhead, and the timing was spot on. Trigger was dry and gritty, but the whole gun looked dry to tell you the truth. Like it had been put away for a long time.

My wife and I looked it over and talked about it. We decided if I could get it cheap enough, at worst we could send it back to Colt for refinishing, and not be into it too bad. We settled on $800.00.

On the way home, we stopped for coffee at a 7-11. I picked up a can of WD-40, sprayed the gun off and most of the "crud" wiped right off. A little in the action and things slicked up a lot. When I got home I gave it a good flushing with gunscrubber and put some Break-Free here and there. A Hoppes soaked patch showed the stuff in the bore and cylinders was dust. Everything was bright and shiney. The exterior cleaned up nicely. Not a museum piece, but not bad.

Hope to shoot it tomorrow.

You might want to check on blueing with a Blue Ridge Blueing. He did Dan Wessons factory blueing. You my be dollar wise anyhow with the investment you have in it now.

Good deal! Looks like you lucked out!

After hearing many stories like this, I've come to wonder why shops don't take pains to make the used guns they have on sale look as good as possible. You'd think the last thing they'd want is a valuable firearm with grit in the action and looking like it had never been cleaned or cared for. As a minimum, cleaning the gun up would make it easier to sell.

Hope it shoots as well as it looks.

perfect weather for snakes

Nice Python you Got! One has to be careful this time of year where I live because the snakes are out. I was working on my deer hunting land today and wore my snake chaps.

I didn't see any rattlers or copperheads but I did see these snakes today. :D

Congrats on a reasonably priced gun...I would enjoy it "as is", flip for a profit, and upgrade when the opportunity arises.

There's a whole big pile of win right there. Imagine that: a broken-in python that you don't have to worry about taking out and using regularly. In my book, that's even cooler than finding a minty one.

Turn over enough stones and you can score a minty one for about the same price. I started a thread a week or two ago on a 98% gun I picked up for just a few dollars more.
