Just got it, a like-new Colt Python 4"er in shiny blue.

I don't think the thing was ever even fired, I was sort of worried about the trigger but after a clean-up & a few dry fires it is already getting nice. Darn accurate, too. And for the purists out there, yes it's got the original Colt logo wood grips, too. :D

Do those Pachmayr grips feel better than the factory wood grips? The factory wood grips are too fat for me.

Are these guns more sensitive/fragile than S&W K frames? (I'm thinking of getting one, myself...)

Thanks,
Steve

the factory wood grips are designed for one hand single action target shooting...where you allow the gun to rotate back during recoil. the nicest feeling grips i've had on my python, so far, are the hogue monogrips (both in wood and plastic) hoping to eventually get a set made by roy fishpaw.

the python is larger than the smith K-frame. the L-frame was patterned (sizewise and barrel profile) after the python to compete in "leg" (stock) PPC shooting.

the python locks up tighter at ignition which resault in the lockwork taking more of a "beating"...they shoot loose faster

sean - very nice indeed. whenever i see beautiful snakes like that i start thinking about having mine refinished

The Pachmayrs feel WAY better to me than the standard wood grips. The shape and feel is very different than the standard square-butt wood grips.

The Python is definitely heavier than a 4" S&W 66, my suspicion is that the Python is heavier than a 4" 686, too. It is a pretty darn substantial .357 revolver, at least in terms of weight of steel.

the snake is a bit larger as there is enough meat in the cylinder to rechamber to .41 or .429 bores...not a suggestion only an observation

consider a beater python chambered in taffin's .41 special

Looks real nice Sean! I have both the stock wood for mine and the Hogue rubber monogrips. The Hogues sure do feel nice, but the Pachmayrs seem "right" for the gun somehow.

Congrats!

Here's mine:

In my opinion, Python stocks are even worse for bullseye shooting than combat-style with both hands. Current production Pythons are shipped with lightly finger-grooved plywood stocks that are slightly less awful than the older styles, but a.) they're horrendously ugly, and b.) they're finished with something slippery and plastic-feeling.
