Went hog hunting Saturday morning, about 11:00, I was leaving my ladder stand and a 5 foot timber rattlesnakes was at the base of ladder.I had on snake proof boots. I was thinking has anyone ever really tested there boots because
the snake was really big. I wasn't ready to
put them to test .

Not dubbed snakeproof but my hh 12" topped working cowboy boots have flaunted a strike or two, not by deflection, but because the gap between leather and skin can't be breached, BTW unless riding thick timber or stomping bad marsh, denim on the OUTSIDE helps a bit too I reckon, and when I hunt the dens in the fall, bullhide bat wings aren't amiss either.

Rattle snakes are good about striking above the top of a boot. A snake boot insulates heat in a lot of the time so they strike above it.

They have trouble biting through good leather. Denim is usually half way defense alone.

I prefer to wear my regular boots and use snake proof leggings if snakes are a concern. A pair of chaps that comes farther up would probably be even better.

Quite right!
I've never had a rattlesnake strike at me unless I taunted it. However, I've been struck at by quite a few cottonmouths. Luckily, they strike about ankle height. My son was struck by a cottonmouth when he was 6 but the cheap WalMart black rubber boots turned the strike. Any rubber boot will thwart a snake bite to a great degree. So will the advertised snake boots.
A friend had a cottonmouth bite his Rocky snake boot and its fangs got hung up in the fabric. He jumped around kicking until the fang broke off and the snake went flying into the palmettos.

I had on my "gamekeeper" snake boots from Academy one day. Friend wanted to go look at my place as I was riding down there to check the hog trap. I asked him if he had boots, said "I'll just walk in your steps." Okay, well, it was spring and there's no shortage of western diamondbacks down there that time of year. I felt it hit the side of my boot's upper. They're knee high. Felt like a stick brushing it, but there were no sticks. I kept walking and I heard my buddy scream like a 12 year old girl, turn around and he's 3 feet off the ground jumping, 65 year old fat man. ROFL!!!! The snake missed him.

So, yeah, I've tested these boots.

Got mine from Cabelas many years ago. Super comfortable. Sadly, I cannot find another pair like them. This was in East Texas so mainly cottonmouths. Had a dog that was bit (he wasn't wearing boots). Must have been at night. I didn't even notice until I was inspecting him and saw the punctures. He was my smallest Mastiff-Rottweiler at around 180 lbs. His daddy went 250 lbs :)

My wife and I invited two couples (from Montana) to join us for a week at our Condo in Nags Head, N.C. While there we visited a local museum that had a LARGE Timber Rattler in a cage. I said to our friends, that's why southern boys don't go in the woods in the summertime. Upon reflection from this post, I suppose I should have told them except for hog hunting.
