Thinking of a snubbie 22 as a fun thing to practice both carrying and then plinking in my yard. Besides the S&W 317 (seemingly not favored for a variety of reasons in a related thread in this forum), I came across the Taurus 94. Stainless, decent price, so what's not to like? Besides these, are there any other current (or reasonably obtainable but no longer made) 22 snubbies?

Relatedly, some of these (such as the S&W 317) and the Taurus ultralights, come in lighter metals than the blue or stainless steel I'm used to. Wouldn't mind something lighter, but it's not essential to me - especially if the maintenance is a PITA or gun is too light for the trigger pull, etc. OTOH, perhaps practicing with a light gun that has a strong pull is good practice.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

John

That little Charter Arms Off Duty looks like a nice piece. Here's another one on Gunbroker - Charter Arms Pathfinder (don't need to register there to get the lowdown):

And the price is nice as well. Anyone have thoughts on either of these?

On a side note, but something that I find interesting, is that Crimson Trace Laser Grips can be had for the S&W 317 and the Taurus 94, but not for the Charter Arms Pathfinder.

And of the three, the Taurus is the only one with an adjustable rear sight. I like that idea a lot - might make things easier for me. (Getting better with my DS since I painted the front blade, but I'm still shooting a bit high and to the left with it - at least I'm on the paper now.) :)

No one has mentioned the Smith Model 34 which is their discontinued "kit gun" which has been replaced by the current model 317 mentioned above. The Model 34 was a steel framed revolver so it will weigh more than the 317. The Colt Diamondback (D-frame) was offered in a 2.5" barrel in 22. Of course, I can't imagine anyone shooting one of those these days as they are highly desireable collector's items. If I were buying a 22 snubbie today, I'd go with the Smith Model 317 or pickup a Model 34 at a gunshow or online.

I am very fond of my S&W 317 and 34. Both are great guns.

The S&W 63 is again a catalogue offering for 2008
with an updated 8 shot cylinder like the 317 but the 63
has a 5 inch Bbl. As soon as they make it available in
a 3 incher to go with my Model 60 with a 3" BBl. I'll buy one.
